2017 Dec Meeting
The next meeting of The Villages Aviation Club will be on Monday, Dec 11, at 7 pm, at the
Seabreeze Regional Recreation Center.

The Guest Speaker for the meeting will be Robert Jex.  The subject will be Drones - FAA
Requirements and Penalties.  
2017 Nov Meeting
The next meeting of The Villages Aviation Club will be on Monday, Nov 13, at 7 pm, at the
Seabreeze Regional Recreation Center.

The Guest Speaker for the meeting will be Ryan King.  The subject will be Automatic Dependent
Surveillance Broadcast (ADS-B).  We are always looking for Guest Speakers.  Anyone that has
any suggestions is requested to pass them on to VP Frank Gulla at  freefalguy@gmail.com.

We will be doing a 50 – 50 drawing.  To prevent a “logjam” of attendees at the door at 7 pm,

The next meeting of The Villages Aviation Club will be on Monday, Sept. 11, at 7 pm, at the
Seabreeze Regional Recreation Center.   This will be our first meeting after taking our Summer
Break during July and August.

The Guest Speaker for the meeting will be John Hicks.  He'll talk about "Surviving an Airplane
Crash."   On November 8, 2014, John was a student pilot flying out of Frederick Airport in
Maryland.  He and his CFI instructor were on a long cross country flight at night. They crashed on
the side of a mountain, John survived, and his instructor did not.  John’s story, as told in a
Washington Post article, was previously Emailed out.  We are always looking for Guest Speakers.

2017 May Minutes
The next meeting of The Villages Aviation Club will be on Monday, May 8 at 7 pm, in the
Clearwater room at the Seabreeze Regional Recreation Center.   

The Guest Speaker for the next meeting will be USN Capt. (Ret.) Don Fraser.  His presentation is
“Flight of Another Intruder – Milestone 516”.  Don served in Southeast Asia, during Vietnam, in a
Navy Attack Squadron of A-6A Intruders.  In 1970 Don was shot down, behind enemy lines, during
a combat mission.    Don and his crew mate ejected, and although injured, escaped their landing
sites, evaded capture and were rescued by the Air Force Search and Rescue, the following day.

We are always looking for Guest Speakers.  Anyone that has any suggestions is requested to pass

off some Simulator time, with a CFI, on the Red Bird FMX Simulator at Leesburg Airport.  You

2017 Apr Minutes
The next meeting of The Villages Aviation Club will be on Monday, Apr. 10, 2017, at 7 p.m., in the
SAVANNAH CENTER. NOTE   For the APRIL MEETING, due to a room availability problem,  
we have  CHANGED the meeting LOCATION to THE SAVANNAH CENTER.  We will have the
ASHLEY WILKES room for the meeting.

The Guest Speaker at the next meeting will be Mike Kennedy, a star of the Discovery Channel’s
“Airplane Repro” TV program.  For those who have never seen the program, Mike specializes in

2017 Mar Minutes
The next meeting of The Villages Aviation Club will be on Monday, March 13 at 7 pm, in the
Clearwater room at the Seabreeze Regional Recreation Center.   

The Guest Speaker at the meeting was Jim Parker, Caribbean Flying Adventures.  His very
interesting presentation was “Fly Your Plane to Cuba Safely and Legally”.  Jim has taken 18
Group Flying Trips to Cuba in the past few years.  For more information on Jim and his company,

2017 Feb Minutes
The next meeting of The Villages Aviation Club will be on Monday, February 13 at 7 pm, in the
Clearwater room at the Seabreeze Regional Recreation Center.   

The Guest Speaker at the next meeting on Feb. 13, will be Mike Kennedy. He is a star of the

The Guest Speaker at the next meeting will be Dr. Larry Diamond,  PharmD.  Larry holds Private,
Instrument, Commercial, CFI, and CFII Pilot ratings; and is the author of the book “The Pilot’s
Primer for Medications”.    His topic will be “5 Easy ways to Fly Safer”.

We are always looking for Guest Speakers.  Anyone that has any suggestions is requested to pass

As part of the 50 – 50 drawing, we will raffle off some Simulator time, with a CFI, on the Red Bird

Guest Speaker:   The Guest Speaker at the next meeting will be Robert Jex, FAA, FAASTeam
Program Manager, Orlando FSDO.  As part of his presentation he will be awarding a
Wright Brothers Master Pilot Award to Mike Even, one of our Aviation Club members.  
2016 Oct Minutes
The next meeting of The Villages Aviation Club will be on Monday, October 10 at 7 pm, in the
Clearwater room at the Seabreeze Regional Recreation Center.

Guest Speaker:    The guest speaker at the next meeting will be Lou Mancuso, also known as “The
Landing Doctor”.  Lou is a 6800 hour commercial pilot with an Instrument Rating, CFI, Multi, and
Seaplane Rating. His FBO, New York Jet, celebrated 70 years in business in 2016.
Lou was a dealer for 7 different Light Sport aircraft before becoming the North American importer
for the BRM Aero Bristell made in the Czech Republic.  Lou has developed a unique LSA Shares
and Transition Training Program for the Bristell. You can read all about it on Lou’s web site www.
thelandingdoctor.com   Lou’s presentation will be on Light Sport Aircraft.

Guest Speaker:    The guest speaker at the next meeting will be Keith Smith, the Director of the
Central Florida Aerospace Academy in Lakeland FL.  He has a Power Point Presentation on the
CFAA.    The CFAA Mission: Through a combination of relevant academic experiences,
collaboration with the local aerospace community, and an aviation focus, all students will engage in
a rigorous college preparatory program that will maximize the potential for successful careers.

2016 Apr Minutes
The next meeting of The Villages Aviation Club will be on Monday, April 11 at 7 pm, in the

Guest Speaker:   The guest speaker at the next meeting will be Air Force BrigGen (Ret.) John
Sievertson.  He is a 30 year active duty veteran, and a 5,000 hour Master Pilot.  He was
Commander of the 89th Military Airlift Wing at Andrews AFB in MD. This special air mission unit
provides airlift for the US President, (Air Force One), Vice President, Cabinet Members, and other
high ranking US and foreign officials.

The 2016 Annual Dues of $5 are due and payable.  Please try to bring the correct amount, and
NOT 20$ bills.

Fred was the Pilot of the Presidential Helicopter, Marine One, and the Past Commander of the

Guest Speaker:   Our guest speakers will be Richard Burns.  Rich will do a presentation on “Radio
Communications for the VFR and IFR pilot that will help you to communicate properly, efficiently,
and effectively from the cockpit”.   This is one of Rich’s FAA Seminar presentations.

Instead of a Fly Out in Dec., we will do a Drive Out (carpool) on Sat. morning, 12/19 to the Simcom
Aviation Training facility in Orlando.  Once again, Rock Rockcastle will make multiple Aviation
Training Simulators, together with 2 instructors, available to our club members “to fly” at no cost.  
The tentative plans are to meet, and depart via carpools, from the Lake Miona Recreation Center
at 0730 Sat. morning.  After lunch in Orlando, we will return to Lake Miona in midafternoon.  We
will be circulating a Sign Up sheet and looking for Volunteer Drivers, at our meeting on 12/14.

Guest Speaker:   Our guest speaker will be Jason Schappert.  He is President of www.MzeroA.
com, an online flight training service.  His presentation, which is very interesting,  is on the "JFK
Jr. Accident Analysis."  He gave it at this years’ Sun N Fun and had the room packed.  Jason has a
computer simulation on what happened.  He's a very good speaker and will keep the meeting
attendees engaged.

Guest Speaker: Our guest speaker will be John “Rock” Rockcastle.
Rock is a Gold Seal Master Flight Instructor at the SIMCOM Aviation Training Center in Orlando
FL, and also serves as an FAA FAASTEAM Lead Representative with the FAA National
Resource Center in Lakeland, Florida.
Rock holds an Airline Transport Pilot Certificate in Single and Multi-engine airplanes and a
Commercial Pilot Certificate for single engine seaplane.

Guest Speaker: Our guest speaker will be Dick Passman.  Dick worked in the Aerospace industry
in an executive capacity with Bell Aircraft, GE, and Grumman.  His presentation will be on the
research, design, manufacture and testing of the X-15 Rocket Plane.  He is co-author of X-15:
"The World's Fastest Rocket Plane and the Pilots Who Ushered in the Space Age" by John
Anderson and Richard Passman, published for the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum, in 2014.

Guest Speaker:   Our Speaker for the meeting will be John Schuck, a Villages resident and author
of the book: “There They Go”.  John Schuck’s “life up in the air” began at age 8, when a Piper Cub
landed in the community pasture near his home. Within seven years he’d become a Civil Air Patrol
Cadet; in two more years he joined the United States Air Force. In this very personal story Schuck
recounts his life-long passion for planes through his service in the Korean Conflict and later as a
Colonel in the Confederate Air Force. Through his commitment to the “flying museum” that is the
CAF, John Schuck contributed to the preservation of the history of flight in America.

Guest Speaker:   Our Speaker for the meeting will be Vice Admiral William J. Hancock, Jr, USN
(Ret).  Admiral Hancock’s final assignment at sea was in command of the USS Ranger CV61
Aircraft Carrier Battle Group consisting of eleven ships, more that ninety aircraft and 7,500
sailors.  This Battle Group was involved in enforcing the No-Fly Zone over Southern Iraq, and
later, also supporting a Marine landing in Mogadishu, Somalia.

During his tenure in the USMC, Fred was Commander of a tactical helicopter squadron
and then later was the Commander of the Presidential Helicopter Squadron HMX-1 as
well as the Presidents pilot for Presidents Reagan and Clinton.  After retiring from the
USMC, he worked for Sikorsky Aircraft Corp. as Program Director of their Presidential
Aircraft Program.  He has over 5000 hours and is both fixed wing and rotary wing
qualified (VMC / IMC ).  Fred is retired and lives in The Villages.

world flights in her J model Mooney. CarolAnn is a World Record Holding pilot, and author, having
just completed her third around-the-world flight. Her first flight took 7 months. Her second flight set
a new World Record by circumnavigating the world in 8 1/2 days. Her latest flight took 11 months
with visits in over 35 countries. She will have copies of her books available. The $20 donation for a
book goes 100% to ALS research.

(Garf) Cooper.  Garf was a former "Nightstalker" pilot with the Task Force
160th., the Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Airborne).  CW4 USA Retired
Ernest (Garf) Cooper,  a former Nightstalker,  participated in a wide variety of
Special Operations assignments and from 1986 through 1992 as a MH-60
helicopter pilot, instructor pilot, instrument examiner, test director, program
manager and platoon leader. This presentation is focused on the Special
Operations Aviation Regiment (Airborne).  It's mission,  history, aviator
training and selection process, special aircraft/capabilities, accomplishments
and touch on future capabilities.

Our guest Speaker will be Karl M. Loeper.   Karl is a weather forecaster with the
Villages Radio Station, WVLG, and also a Villages Resident.    During his career,
Karl spent 5 years as an In-Flight Meteorologist with the US Navy Hurricane
Hunters (VW-4) and was also employed at the  National Weather Service.   
Among the awards that he received during his career is the Hurriphoon Award

Our next Villages Aviation Club Meeting will be on Monday, Dec. 6 at 7 PM in the
Hibiscus recreation Center.

The activity for the meeting will be a an audio visual presentation entitled
"Long Props and Big Rocks - Bush Landings in Alaska".

This will be presented by bush pilot George Erickson, author of the best-seller
True North: Exploring the great Wilderness by Bush Plane and its sequel, Back
to the Barrens: On the Wing with da Vinci & Friends.

Pete Fambrough;  the  “Chiropractic Pilot”, owner of Back Achers Airport in
Belleview / Candler, and Vice President of the local chapter of the  Florida Aero
club.  Pete is an  aviator extraordinaire.  A lifelong pilot, he has a multi-engine,
commercial, Instrument, license with aerobatic, seaplane, glider, etc. ratings.

Judie Betz;  Aviation Columnist for the Daily Sun, and local chapter President
of the Florida Aero club.

FAASTeam Safety Seminar presented by Rock Rockcastle (A Gold Seal Master
Flight Instructor) on the subject of
“Safe Operations at Towered and Non-
Towered Airports
”.   This seminar will cover Operational  Procedures at both
Towered and Non-Towered Airports.  Please bring a pencil or pen to participate
in the Safety Quizzes.

As always, this Seminar is open to all Club Attendees, however to get Wings
accreditation for participation, attendees must pre-register online at the

Steve and his wife, Kathy Hirtz, MD, are the owners/ operators of WingOver
Aerobatics LLC located at Leesburg Airport (LEE).

Steve is a world renowned Air Show performer and pilot with more than 30
years experience and over 8,000 hours, mostly in aerobatic aircraft.  Steve
developed and instructed The Royal Falcons, Jordan’s national aerobatic flying
team.  

In addition to being an aerobatic pilot and performer, Kathy is also a
practicing Sports Medicine Physician here in The Villages.  Kathy will be
attending the meeting with Steve.

Rock holds a single and multiengine ATP with over 13,000 hours.  He is a two
time Gold Seal Master Flight Instructor and an FAASTeam Leader.  (See Judy

FAASTeam Safety Seminar on the subject of “Safe Flight”. This seminar will

Sharon Morse Medical Center here in the
Villages.    Dr. Sherman specializes in Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surge light
Instructor.  Dr. Sherman will be talking about how to maintain and/or regain
your
Flight Medical Certificate.  A subject very important  to all of us.    
2010 Feb
Meeting
- Guest Speaker: George Erickson,  author of True North and a highly
sought-after aviation speaker.  The presentation will be on "Flying Down
Under", Bush Flying in Australia.  Ten Skylanes begin in Melbourne in the south
and fly NW to the Opal mines, Alice Springs, and Ayers Rock.  Next they head to
Normantown on the Gulf of Carpentaria, then east to Cairns, before heading
back to Melbourne.

- Guest Speaker:    Our Speaker for the January 4 meeting will be Fred Geier,
Col. USMC (Ret.).
 
During his tenure in the USMC, Fred was Commander of a tactical helicopter
squadron and then later was the Commander of the Presidential Helicopter
Squadron HMX-1 as well as the Presidents pilot for Presidents Reagan and
Clinton.  After retiring from the USMC, he worked for Sikorsky Aircraft Corp. as
Program Director of their Presidential Aircraft Program.  He has over 5000
hours and is both fixed wing and rotary wing qualified (VMC / IMC )
Fred is retired and lives in The Villages.

Mosley,  Cmdr. USN  (Ret.)
 and  President of All Coast Aircraft Recovery
Inc.  His company specializes in the relocation of historic aircraft for both
military and private museums around the country.  A sampling of the many
aircraft they have dismantled, relocated, and reconstructed include:  F-84F ,
B-17C, F84F, C-130E,  C-119, F4E, Cessna Citation Mustang, and many others too
numerous to list.
Chuck will be showing a muti-media presentation showing some of their
relocation activities.
